MininetFed Presented as Demo at ACM SIGCOMM 2025
We are excited to announce that MininetFed has been accepted for demonstration at the prestigious SIGCOMM conference, an ACM’s flagship conference on data communication and networking.
The Demo A Lightweight Emulation Framework for Energy-Aware Federated Learning highlighted MininetFed’s capabilities for rapidly prototyping federated scenarios to experiment with distributed machine learning algorithms in realistic emulation environments, focusing on low energy consumption—key for applications in IoT and mobile devices.
The Demo was co-authored by the students Johann Jakob and João Batista and the Professors Rodolfo Villaça, Eduardo Cerqueira (UFPA), Ramon Fontes (UFRN), and Vinícius Mota, and presented by the Professor Ramon Fontes in person at Coimbra, Portugal on 10 and 11 september, 2025.
Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the system, see real-time deployments, and discuss its applications in emulation of federated learning, edge computing, and cloud-network interactions. The presentation received excellent feedback for its practical impact and potential to support international collaborations in smart networks and distributed AI.
Congratulations to Ramon Fontes for the presentation and the entire team for their exceptional contribution to both our lab and the international computer networking field! This achievement reinforces our mission to drive innovation in energy-aware intelligent systems and collaborative research worldwide.
